Fox Valley Lutheran softball rallies to beat Xavier, finishes regular season 24-0

APPLETON – Andi Bierman had a two-run single in the top of the fifth inning to plate the tying and go-ahead runs and lead the Fox Valley Lutheran softball team to a 4-3 win over crosstown rival Xavier on Thursday at Xavier High School.

Madison Babcock struck out 10, and allowed just two hits and one walk in the circle for Fox Valley Lutheran, which finishes the regular season with a perfect 24-0 record.

Nora Probst knocked in two with a single in the top of the first inning to put the Foxes up 2-0 before Xavier stormed back.

Addison Hervey had an RBI double in the bottom of the first, and a pair of FVL errors in the third led to two runs and a 3-2 lead for the Hawks.

That would be all they would get against Babcock, who allowed only one baserunner, that coming on another error, over the final four innings.

Probst singled, Brianna Dahlke doubled and Bierman followed with a single to drive them both in to put FVL up for good in the fifth.

Both teams open WIAA postseason play on Tuesday with regional semifinals. Fox Valley Lutheran will host Marinette in a Division 2 contest, and Xavier will be at home to take on Tomahawk in a Division 3 game.
