Green Bay Hornets rally to defeat Appleton Post 38 Legion baseball

APPLETON – Appleton Post 38 could not hold on to an early five-run lead and lost to the Green Bay Hornets 11-9 in American Legion baseball Tuesday at Don Hawkins Field.
Appleton scored four times in the first inning and tacked on four more in the third to take an 8-3 lead, but the Hornets (8-2) responded with eight runs over the next three innings and held on at the end.
Brennan Otto’s groundout scored Reed Flick in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Appleton (6-7) close to within two, but it could not push any more across.
Four Post 38 pitchers combined for 12 walks and surrendered 11 hits in the loss.
Michael Gwiazdon had a pair of hits and three RBI, and Otto and Jack Kangas each had two RBI for Appleton.
Appleton Post 38 returns to action Monday at Pulaski.
