La Crosse Central stymies Fox Valley Lutheran in WIAA Division 2 boys basketball regional final

LA CROSSE – Fox Valley Lutheran was held to four made field goals in the first half and never got untracked, losing a 61-39 decision to La Crosse Central in a WIAA Division 2 boys basketball regional final Saturday at Central High School.
No. 2 seed La Crosse Central (22-4) moves on to a D-2 sectional semifinal against No. 4 West Salem (22-4) on Thursday at La Crosse Logan. No. 3 Menomonie and No. 4 New Richmond will play the other sectional semifinal at Hudson, with the winners meeting in the sectional championship game on Saturday, March 14, to play for a berth in the state tournament.
The 39 points for Fox Valley Lutheran was a season-low and only the second time all season it had been held below 60 points, with the other coming in a 60-56 loss in the season-opener against Freedom.
Braden Heiges had nine points, Gabe Heiges scored eight and Caleb Dahlke finished with six in the limited offensive output for the Foxes.
FVL, which finishes the season with a 16-10 record, ended up with just 11 made field goals and four 3-pointers, while making 13 of 22 free throws.
