Second-half surge lifts Marshfield past Appleton East boys basketball

APPLETON – A dominant second half for Marshfield broke open a close game and the Tigers went on to defeat Appleton East 81-59 in the season opener for both teams Tuesday night at Appleton East High School.
The Tigers led 30-26 at halftime before outscoring East 51-33 in the second half to pull away.
Chris Pohl made all 13 of his free throw attempts and finished with a game-high 31 points to lead Marshfield, which made 20 of 21 free throws overall and shot 56 percent from the field (28-for-50).
Tyler Seidl led Appleton East with 12 points and Mason O’Rilley added 11 for the Patriots.
Appleton East will open its Fox Valley Association schedule at home against Kaukauna on Friday.
