APPLETON – Shawano scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to shock Fox Valley Lutheran and win 3-1 in a WIAA Division 2 baseball regional quarterfinal Thursday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
Dawsen Burington led off the second inning with a walk, moved up to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on another wild pitch to give the Foxes an early 1-0 lead.
That advantage held until the final inning when Shawano rallied.
Riley Dixon had a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to tie the game, and after an intentional walk re-loaded the bases, Crew Weisnicht laced a single up the middle to plate two more runs and put the Hawks on top 3-1.
Pete Bruette struck out the side in order in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the win for Shawano (13-8), which moves on to a Division 2 regional semifinal at No. 1 seed Seymour (21-3) on Tuesday.
Jack Schlueter had two hits for the Foxes, who finish the season with a 13-13 record.
