Valders surges past Xavier in WIAA Division 3 softball sectional final

CHILTON – Xavier’s bid for a first-ever trip to the WIAA State Softball Tournament fell one win short as the Hawks lost to Valders 8-2 in a Division 3 sectional final Thursday at Chilton High School.

Xavier jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Kalia Stammer doubled and scored on an error in the second inning, and Elsa Dvoracek had a double and scored on another Valders’ error in the third.

The Hawks would not score again against Valders pitcher Megan Hochkammer, who finished with 14 strikeouts, no walks and just three hits allowed, only one hit after the third inning.

Valders tied the game in the fifth on a two-run single by Anna Olson, and pulled ahead for good with a six-run sixth.

After two strikeouts to start the inning, Xavier pitcher Addison Hervey got into trouble. Two walks, followed with a double by Madison Bergel, gave Valders a 4-2 lead. An error, an RBI triple by Makayla Dallas and a two-run homer by Hochkammer finished off the win for the Vikings.

Hervey finished with 13 strikeouts and four walks in six innings of work.

Valders (20-6) will play in a Division 3 semifinal at the 2025 WIAA State Softball Tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison on Friday, June 13. Seedings and pairings will be announced on Friday.

Xavier finishes its season with a 12-10 record.
