Xavier baseball sweeps doubleheader over New London

APPLETON – The Xavier baseball team earned a pair of Bay Conference victories with a doubleheader sweep of New London on Monday at Don Hawkins Field.
Xavier scored twice in the sixth inning to win the opener 3-2 and rolled to a 10-0 victory in Game 2 behind a stellar pitching performance by Frankie Cavaiani.
In Game 1, the score was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the sixth when the Hawks (9-11, 6-9 Bay Conference) was able to squeeze out a pair of runs.
Kyler Bleck reached on an error and scored on another, and Titan Milhaupt drove in Matthew Potter to give Xavier a 3-1 lead.
New London scored once in the top of the seventh before Reed Flick was able to coax a groundout out to end.
The Hawks rolled in the second game, scoring in all five of their at-bats to win in five innings via the 10-run rule.
Xavier pounded out 11 hits, including two each from Flick, Gavin Wiese and Easton Stempa.
Flick scored four times, and Bleck and Wiese each had three RBI in the victory.
Cavaiani struck out six, while giving up just two hits and one walk in the five-inning shutout.
Xavier plays at Green Bay East/West on Tuesday at Johannes Park.
