Xavier boys golf places second to advance to sectionals at WIAA Division 2 Luxemburg-Casco regional

LUXEMBURG – All five of Xavier’s golfers finished in the top 15 as the Hawks finished second at a WIAA Division 2 boys golf regional at Northbook Golf Course on Tuesday.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team at the regional move on to a D-2 sectional at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour on Tuesday, June 3. The top two teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team at the sectional will qualify for the 2025 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison on June 9-10.
Seymour won the team title with a 314, led by meet medalist Vince Sigl’s 73, and Xavier was 13 strokes back with a 327 to earn second. Luxemburg-Casco (333) and Denmark (357) also earned sectional berths.
Jonah Gentry and Derek Watry tied for fourth with 80s, Jack Schmidtke shot an 82 to finish in a four-way tie for 10th, and Kyle Watry and Grant Neumann both fired 85s to tie for 15th for Xavier.
Andrew Besel of Wrightstown, Trey Wienke of Sturgeon Bay and Owen Berg of Freedom all shot 81s, and Little Chute’s Shaymus Smith won a playoff over Zach Wendlandt of Wrightstown after both shot 82 to snag the fourth individual sectional qualifying spot.
