Xavier earns team title at 19-team Metro Boys Golf Invitational

SHERWOOD – Derrick Watry shot an 1-over par 72 to win medalist honors and lead Xavier to the team title at the Metro Boys Golf Invitational on Monday at High Cliff Golf Course.

Kyle Watry tied for second with a 73 as the Hawks finished with a team score of 303, six strokes in front of Fond du Lac. Xavier’s No. 2 team, led by Tyler Kaufman’s 76, was third among the 19 teams with a 315.

Appleton East placed fifth with a 319, Appleton North was 10th with a 331, Appleton West 11th with a 335, Fox Valley Lutheran 15th with a 352, and Appleton West No. 2 tied for 17th with a 374.

Jonathan Huenink had five birdies and finished in a three-way tie for second with a 73 to lead Appleton North. Daniel Garrigan had a strong round with a 79 as well for the Lightning.

Max VandenLangenberg topped Appleton East with a 76 and was part of a six-way tie for sixth. Owen Lutes added a 78 for the Patriots.

Kusserow was Fox Valley Lutheran’s top finisher with a 79, and Lucas Downs shot 80 for Appleton West.
