APPLETON – The Xavier girls basketball team are regional champions again after dismantling Luxemburg-Casco 67-46 in a WIAA Division 2 regional final Saturday night at Xavier High School.

The Hawks raced out to a 45-22 lead by halftime and were able to finish off the win to advance to sectionals for the sixth year in a row.

Xavier (21-5), the top seed in the upper half of the Division 3 Sectional 3 bracket, will play No. 3 West De Pere (14-12) in a sectional semifinal Thursday at Seymour High School. West De Pere upset No. 2 Fox Valley Lutheran 55-47 on the road on Saturday.

No. 3 Beaver Dam will take on No. 4 Port Washington in the bottom half of the sectional on Thursday at Mequon Homestead, and the winners of the two games will square off for a sectional title and a berth in next week’s WIAA State Girls Basketball Tournament in Green Bay on Saturday, March 7, at Sheboygan South High School.

Xavier has made the state tournament each of the past two seasons, losing in the Division 3 state finals both times.

Brynn Krull continued her hot shooting by making four 3-pointers and scoring a team-high 20 points for the Hawks, which had eight different players hit the scoring column. Annika Heimann added 12 points and Hailey Hafner contributed 11 for Xavier.

Sienna Blohowiak had a game-high 22 points for Luxemburg-Casco (13-13).
