Xavier outlasts Lake Country Lutheran to win Division 4 semifinal at WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament

MILWAUKEE – Xavier will be playing for a state title after a 1-0 win over Lake Country Lutheran in a Division 4 semifinal at the WIAA State Girls Soccer Tournament on Thursday at Uihlein Soccer Park.

Ellie Reed scored off an assist from Kate Jannette midway through the second half for the game’s only goal as Xavier (19-3-1) moves into the Division 4 state championship game Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

Goalkeeper Abigail Anderson saved all three shots she faced in goal for the Hawks, who were outshot 13-6 overall but held Lake Country Lutheran (9-8-2) to just the three shots on goal.

Xavier will take on Ozaukee/Random Lake (13-6-4) for the D-4 state title. Ozaukee/Random Lake defeated Washburn in a shootout in the other semifinal Thursday.  The Hawks, playing in their 12th state tournament, has previously won Division 2 titles in 2004, 2005 and 2008.
