Xavier softball knocks off Clintonville in WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal

CLINTONVILLE – The Xavier softball team will play for a state tournament berth after posting a 4-1 win over Clintonville in a WIAA Division 3 sectional semifinal Wednesday at Bucholtz Park.
No. 4 seed Xavier (12-9) will play No. 2 Valders (19-6) in a Division 3 sectional final at Chilton High School on Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner moves on to the WIAA State Softball Tournament at Goodman Diamond in Madison, which will be held June 11-14. Neither team has ever made it to state before.
Addison Hervey struck out eight and held Clintonville (12-15) to just two hits to pick up the pitching win for the Hawks.
Xavier struck early, scoring twice in the opening inning on an RBI single from Hervey and a run-scoring double by Morgan Staszak.
The Hawks upped their lead to 3-0 when Stasazak doubled again and scored on an error in the fourth.
After Clintonville scored its lone run in the bottom of the fourth, Hervey kncoked in Elsa Dvoracek with an insurance run in the fifth for the Hawks.
Dvoracek, Hervey and Staszak each had two hits for Xavier, which finsihed with eight in all.
