CAROL STREAM, Ill. – Cade Prestigiacomo knocked in two runs with a triple in the top of the 10th inning to lift the Appleton Doubledays to a 6-5 win over Danville (Ill.) Post 210 on Wednesday in a first-round game at the Great Lakes American Legion Baseball Regional.

Appleton (19-5) moves on to a winners’ bracket game against Midland (Mich.) at 4 p.m. Thursday.

After allowing the runner placed on second base to start the bottom of the 10th to score, Jack Schlueter struck out the final two batters to finish off the win for the Doubledays.

Appleton finished with 10 hits, including four triples. Dawsen Burington and Prestigiacomo each had two hits in the victory.

Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky and A.J. Thompson had back-to-back triples in the second inning, and Thompson scored on an error to give Appleton a quick 2-0 lead.

Danville fought back to take a 3-2 lead before the Doubledays plated single runs in the fifth and sixth on a sacrifice fly by Burington and a T.J. Parker single that plated Dan Dieck, who led off the sixth with a triple.

Danville tied the game in the bottom of the sixth and the 5-5 score held until the 10th when Appleton pulled in front for good on Prestigiacomo’s two-run triple.

Parker did the bulk of the work on the mound for Appleton, giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts over five innings of relief.
