APPLETON – Kewaskum outscored Fox Valley Lutheran 5-4 in a shootout to win a WIAA Division 3 boys soccer sectional semifinal Thursday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods, putting the game into a shootout, where Kewaskum was able to pull it out and advance to a D-3 sectional final at No. 1 seed Green Bay Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Austin Zanto scored off an assist from Emiliano Guzman 8:09 into the second half to give the Foxes a 1-0 lead.
The lead was brief, however, as Kewaskum tied the game in the 63rd minute and that held the rest of way as the Foxes staved off a flurry of shots from the Indians in the closing minutes.
Kewaskum put three shots on FVL in the first overtime and the Foxes had one shot that went high in the second OT, all missing, sending the game to the shootout.
FVL goalkeeper Justin Miller finished with 11 saves.
Fox Valley Lutheran finishes the season with a 15-4-4 record.
