Appleton North girls, three other local runners compete at 2025 WIAA State Cross Country Championships

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Appleton North girls had a pair of top-15 finishes and took seventh in the Division 1 standings at the 2025 WIAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course.
Sophomore Eva Busch placed fifth in 18:13.5 and senior Ava Helmbrecht finished 13th in 18:44.8 to lead the way for the Lightning, who finished with 220 points. Neenah won its second-straight Division 1 state title with 71 points.
Sophia Scherwinski placed 68th (19:38.9), Audry Dehlinger was 103rd (20:11.9), Amber Ziemer 136th (20:48.8), Addy Campbell 165th (21:31.0) and Audra Roe 184th (22:16.6) to round out Appleton North’s team.
In the Division 1 boys race, Appleton East’s Louie Mandich finished 69th among the 188 runners, running the 5-kilometer race in 16:53.3.
Stevens Point won its fourth D-1 boys team title in a row, with De Pere’s Grady Lenn taking first in the boys race in 15:03.2.
Fox Valley Lutheran had a pair of runners in Division 2 action.
Claire Fischer placed 55th in the girls race in 20:34.1, while Mason Dobberstein finished 74th in the boys race in 17:38.8.
