Appleton North boys volleyball defeats Kimberly in sectional final, advances to state for second year in a row

KIMBERLY – For the second year in a row, the Appleton North boys volleyball team is heading to state.

The Lightning downed Fox Valley Association rival Kimberly 3-1 in a sectional final Saturday afternoon at Kimberly High School.

Appleton North won 25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 25-16, to advance to the 2025 WIAA State Boys Volleyball Tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Friday at the Resch Center in Green Bay. North will take on Waukesha Catholic Memorial in a quarterfinal match at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

This will be North’s ninth state tournament appearance. The Lightning’s lone state title came in 2012.

Nathan Ramus, who was recently named the Fox Valley Association Player of the Year, led the Lightning with 23 kills. Spencer Munson had 28 assists and Landon Kue finished with 14 digs.

Sam Kuehl added nine kills and four blocks, Grant Gabby had six kills and three blocks, Owen Wick tallied five kills and Howie Guilbeault had four kills as well for Appleton North.
