Appleton North boys golf opens season with 41st-place finish at Washington County Invitational

HARTFORD – The Appleton North boys golf team opened its season with a 41st-place finish at the 54-team Washington County Invitational, which was held Friday and Saturday at Hartford Golf Club and Washington County Golf Course.
De Pere won the team title with a two-day score of 580, 19 strokes better than Waunakee. Appleton North finished with a score of 692.
Grant Lawton of De Pere won individual medalist honors with a 6-under par 138, shooting 69 both rounds. Ryan Swanson of River Falls was second with a 143.
A total of 235 golfers competed in both rounds.
Senior Jonathan Huenink led North as he tied for 19th place with a two-day score of 151, which included a 74 at Hartford and a 77 at Washington County.
Camden Huck shot a 177 (86-91), Gordy Cole had a 183 (99-84), Maxim Hanek fired a 185 (95-90) and Vaughn Yingling had a 187 (95-92) to round out Appleton North’s scoring.
Appleton North will open its Fox Valley Association dual meet season at Oshkosh Country Club against Oshkosh West on Friday, April 17.
