Hortonville hands Appleton North softball its first FVA loss

APPLETON – Hortonville scratched across single runs in three different innings and pulled out a 3-1 win over Appleton North in a battle of Fox Valley Association softball undefeated teams on Tuesday at Appleton North High School.
Breanna Drechsel scored on an error in the third inning, and Samantha D’Addario and Ella Vanderwielen had RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings to help Hortonville (5-0, 3-0 FVA) build a 3-0 lead.
Appleton North (5-2, 3-1 FVA) was held scoreless until the seventh when Brianna Gehrman delivered a sacrifice fly to score Valerie Baranczyk. A lineout ended the game.
Sawyer Haessly went 3-for-3 and Baranczyk had two hits for the Lightning.
Appleton North’s next game is Friday at Neenah.
