Late goal from Kempfer lifts Appleton United boys lacrosse past De Pere

DE PERE – Jaylen Kempfer scored with 1:38 remaining in the game to lead the Appleton United boys lacrosse team to a 7-6 win over De Pere in a Bay Valley Conference game Friday night at West De Pere High School.

Appleton led 4-1 at halftime and 6-3 early in the second half before the Ghostbirds scored three unanswered goals to tie the game at 6-6.

Appleton junior Tanner Dean made a steal and cleared the zone as De Pere was looking for a go-ahead shot, and after a timeout, Kempfer scored with less than two minutes left to give Appleton the victory.

Max Segelstrom had three goals for his first career hat trick, Roen Willis added two goals, and Brady Olp also scored for Appleton (7-2, 4-0 Bay Valley Conference).

De Pere drops to 6-3 and 4-3 in the Bay Valley.

Appleton is back in action next Thursday against Kimberly at home at Appleton East High School.
