Appleton North softball earns walk-off win over Oshkosh West to maintain FVA lead

APPLETON – Drew Brown knocked home Valerie Baranczyk with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Appleton North softball team a 4-3 walk-off win over Oshkosh West on Friday at North High School.
Charlotte Radke had a two-run single in the first inning to give North an early lead.
After West scored twice in the second inning, the Lightning went ahead in the fifth, but the Wildcats again retaliated as Colleen Fitzpatrick hit a two-out solo homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Baranczyk walked with one out, moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alyssa Wald, and scored on Brown’s liner to left.
Evelyn Frega went the distance in the circle for the Lightning, striking out seven as they won their third-straight game.
Appleton North improves to 14-3 overall and 10-1 in the Fox Valley Association, remaining in first place. North hosts Kaukauna on Tuesday.
