Fox Valley Lutheran sweeps doubleheader over Appleton East

APPLETON – Fox Valley Lutheran earned a pair of close wins in a nonconference doubleheader against Appleton East on Saturday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.

The Foxes scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 7-6 walk-off win in Game 1, and followed that up with a 7-5 victory in the second game.

East led 6-1 after 5½ innings of the opener.

Calvin Feucht had two-run double and scored on a bases loaded walk in the fourth to give the Patriots a five-run lead before FVL started to battle back.

Brady Popp knocked in two runs with a double in the sixth, and the Foxes put up a four-spot in the seventh to win it. Five singles, including RBI hits by Wyatt Schlueter, Spencer Bromm and Jack Schlueter led the rally as FVL won in walk-off fashion.

In Game 2, FVL used a five-run fourth inning to pull ahead for good as Michael Gutekunst drove in a run with a double and Wyatt Schlueter had an RBI single.

The Foxes were able to hold on despite East (3-14) scoring twice in the sixth, to improve to 12-7 this season.

Both teams are back in action Tuesday as FVL hosts New London and Appleton East plays at home against Hortonville.
