Xavier softball wins playoff opener over Menominee Nation

APPLETON – The Xavier softball team opened its WIAA postseason with a dominant 13-0 win over Menominee Nation in a Division 2 regional quarterfinal Thursday at Xavier High School.

Morgan Staszak struck out seven in a five-inning complete game shutout for the eighth-seeded Hawks (9-10), who move on to a regional semifinal Tuesday at No. 1 seed Wittenberg-Birnamwood.

Elsa Dvoracek had three hits and three RBI, and Kalia Stammer smacked a three-run homer for Xavier.

Samia Guerrero and Anna Vanden Heuvel both added two hits in the win as the Hawks finished with 13 hits in all.
