Appleton North softball cruises past Appleton East

APPLETON – Appleton North snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-2 win over Appleton East in a Fox Valley Association softball game Thursday at East High School.

Keira Hughes hit a two-run homer and Alyssa Wald had three hits, including a solo home run, to lead the Lightning to the win.

Evelyn Frega allowed two runs over four innings with five strikeouts to earn the win and Charlotte Radtke mopped up with seven strikeouts over the final three innings for North.

Drew Brown and Brianna Gehrman also had three hits each, with Brown driving in three runs for the Lightning.

Aubrie Erickson hit a two-run homer to provide Appleton East with its only two runs.

Appleton North finishes the regular season 16-7 and 12-4 in the FVA, while Appleton East ends up 5-21 and 2-14 in the FVA.

Appleton East will play a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal at Menasha on Tuesday, with the winner moving on to a regional final at Appleton North on Thursday, May 28.
