Fox Valley Lutheran baseball doubles up Winneconne in regular-season finale

APPLETON – The Fox Valley Lutheran baseball team salvaged a series split with Winneconne, downing the Wolves 4-2 in a Bay Conference game Thursday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
Luke Heimerl tossed a complete game for FVL, striking out seven without a walk, and allowing two runs and six hits.
Spencer Bromm walked with the bases loaded in the first inning and Michael Gutekunst drove in a pair of runs in the fourth with a single to give FVL a 3-0 lead.
After Winneconne (14-9, 10-4 Bay Conference) scored twice in the sixth, Heimerl connected on an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to give the Foxes some insurance.
Fox Valley Lutheran finishes the regular season with a 14-12 record and an 8-6 mark in the Bay Conference.
Fox Valley Lutheran, the No. 9 seed in its WIAA Division 2 bracket, will play a regional quarterfinal at No. 8 seed New London next Thursday, May 28. New London swept the two-game Bay Conference series from the Foxes during the regular season.
