Xavier places second at WIAA Division 2 boys golf regional, earns spot at sectionals

WINNECONNE – The Xavier boys golf team is heading to sectionals after placing second at a WIAA Division 2 regional on Tuesday at Lake Breeze Golf Course.

Host Winneconne took the team title with a 296 and Xavier was second with a 300 as the two teams combined for eight of the top nine individual scores.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not on the qualifying teams advance to a Division 2 sectional at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour on Tuesday, June 2.

Menominee Nation/Gresham (331) and New London (332) picked up the other two team sectional berths.

Austin Dobbe of Winneconne won the individual regional title with a 2-under par 70, two shots better than Xavier sophomore Derek Watry.

William Bauman took fourth with a 74, Grant Neumann and Phillips Schmidtke finished in a four-way tie for sixth with 77s, and Jack Schmidtke added an 83 for Xavier.

Amherst’s Ethan Haas (77), Antigo’s Isaac Buchman (78), Shawano’s Duane Gristeau-Blance (80) and Clintonville’s Jeremiah Devroy (81) picked up the four individual sectional berths.
