Appleton United girls lacrosse drops WIAA regional final at Waunakee

WAUNAKEE – The Appleton United girls lacrosse team’s fourth quarter comeback attempt fell just short as they lost to Waunakee 12-10 in a WIAA regional final Tuesday at Waunakee High School.
Waunakee led 10-4 after three quarters before Appleton tried to mount a comeback.
Appleton scored six times in the fourth quarter, but Waunakee was able to scratch out two more goals to pull out the win.
Kayden Smith scored four times, Kailey Heindel added three goals, Ally Rhoda scored twice and Candice Guerrero had another goal for Appleton, which finishes the season with a 12-4-1 record. Rhoda and Guerrero had assists in the loss.
Waunakee moves on to a sectional semifinal on Thursday at No. 1 seed Hudson.
