Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball holds on for win at Kimberly

KIMBERLY – Mason Winkler had a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Appleton Doubledays the lead for good as they held on for an 11-9 win over Kimberly in Legion baseball action Monday night at Sunset Park.
Appleton had a six-run second inning to pull ahead only to see Kimberly reclaim the lead at 7-6.
Winkler’s double put the Doubledays (4-5) ahead. They tacked on three more important insurance runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Brady Popp and Zander Martin.
Kimberly scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded before Appleton reliever Wyatt Schlueter got the final two outs to preserve the victory.
The Doubledays will host Kaukauna at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Koslo Park in Menasha.
