Appleton Doubledays rout De Pere to stay alive at Great Lakes Legion Baseball Regional

CAROL STREAM, Ill. – The Appleton Doubledays smacked 17 hits and scored multiple runs in three different innings as they blasted De Pere 10-0 in an elimination game at the Great Lakes American Legion Baseball Regional on Friday.

The Doubledays scored four times in the first inning, keyed by a two-run double from Jackson Bines-Sabrowsky, and never looked back to keep their season alive in the double-elimination tournament.

Cade Prestigiacomo allowed one hit over two innings, Jack Schlueter gave up only one hit in 2 2/3 innings, and Rylan Winkler finished off the shutout by retiring all seven batters he faced for Appleton.

Prestigiacomo had a bases-loaded single that led to three runs in the fourth as a De Pere error allowed two extra runs to score.

Appleton put the game away in the seventh with three more runs on RBI singles from A.J. Thompson and Brandon Tobak, and a sacrifice fly from Jacob Bickel.

The Doubledays (20-6) will play Cedar Rapids (Iowa), the lone undefeated team remaining the tournament, at 7 p.m. Saturday. With a win, Appleton would advance to the final day of the tournament on Sunday with a berth in the American Legion Baseball World Series in Shelby, N.C., on the line.
