Appleton United rallies in second half to down Kimberly in WIAA boys lacrosse regional semifinal

APPLETON – Three consecutive goals in the second half pushed the eighth-seeded Appleton United boys lacrosse team to a gutty 5-3 win over No. 9 Kimberly in a WIAA regional semifinal Friday night at Appleton East High School.

Kimberly jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Jake Koller scored to get Appleton on the board.

The Papermakers took a 3-2 lead into halftime, but Appleton’s defense, led by goaltender Kellan Murphy, shut them out the rest of the way.

Sam Stillwell scored twice in the third period and Rylan Davia tacked on an insurance goal in the fourth to push Appleton United to the win.

Appleton (12-5) moves on to a regional final at No. 1 seed and defending state champion Waunakee (17-1) on Tuesday.
