Fox Valley Lutheran baseball blows past Shawano in season opener

APPLETON – Fox Valley Lutheran scored seven times in its first at-bat of the season and went on to defeat Shawano 9-1 in its baseball season opener Tuesday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School.
Three walks, two errors and two hits, including a two-run double from Noah Mayer, led to the big seven-run first inning for the Foxes, who were unchallenged the rest of the way.
Jack Schlueter allowed one run over four innings, striking out nine to earn the victory, and Luke Heimerl picked up a three-inning save without allowing a run.
Jordan Sanders had two hits and drove in a run for the Foxes.
The two teams will play again Thursday at Shawano.
