Shawano holds off Xavier softball

SHAWANO – Shawano scored three times in the third inning and held off Xavier to win 3-2 in a Bay Conference softball game Monday at Martzke Park.

The first run scored on an error and Riley Krueger drove in two with a single to give Shawano an early 3-0 lead.

Xavier plated a run in the fourth when Kalia Stammer, Quinn Hervey and Morgan Staszak had consecutive singles, and Stammer scored on a wild pitch.

Xavier scored again in the fifth on an RBI single by Stammer, but that would be it as Shawano (15-6, 8-3 Bay Conference) pitcher Lily Bubolz tossed two shutout innings to close out the win.

Staszak struck out four with two walks and eight hits allowed in the circle for Xavier (6-7, 3-7 Bay Conference).

Xavier hosts Fox Valley Lutheran for another Bay Conference game on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
