APPLETON – For the second day in a row the Xavier baseball team edged Menasha by a run as it earned a 5-4 come-from-behind victory Friday at Don Hawkins Field.

The game, originally scheduled to be played at Koslo Park in Menasha, was moved to the American Legion Post 54 field due to wet field conditions, with Menasha serving as the home team in the scoreboard.

A two-run home run by Jacob Coopman in the bottom of the third gave Menasha a 4-1 lead and that held until the top of the fifth when the Hawks got to work.

Titan Milhaupt had a two-run single and after a strikeout, Easton Stempa doubled to center to knock in two more to give Xavier a 5-4 lead.

Quinn Comerford shut out Menasha in the fifth and Gavin Wiese allowed just one hit over the final two innings to pick up the save for Comerford, who struck out six over five innings of work.

Xavier evens its record at 4-4 and improves to 3-0 in the Bay Conference.

The Hawks will host Green Bay Notre Dame for a nonconference contest Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Don Hawkins Field.
