Xavier boys golf takes second at WIAA Division 2 Seymour sectional, advances to state for second year in a row

SEYMOUR – The Xavier boys golf team is heading back to state.
Xavier, behind co-medalist Derek Watry’s 74, finished second in the team standings with a score of 315 at a WIAA Division 2 boys golf sectional on Tuesday at Crystal Springs Golf Course to advance to next week’s state meet.
The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional advance to the 2026 WIAA State Boys Golf Championships, which will be held June 8-9 at University Ridge Golf Club in Madison.
Winneconne won the team title with a 313, two strokes better than Xavier. The Hawks outlasted fellow Bay Conference opponent Seymour by five shots for the second state qualifying spot.
Xavier advances to state for the second year in a row and the fifth time in the last six seasons.
Watry tied Winneconne’s Austin Dobbe for first place with a 74, while Phillip Schmidtke and Jack Schmidtke tied for sixth with 79s for Xavier. Grant Neumann added an 83 and William Bauman had an 87 to round out the scoring for the Hawks.
