Winneconne slugs past Xavier softball

APPLETON – Winneconne held off a late rally to defeat Xavier 8-6 in a Bay Conference softball game Thursday at Xavier High School.

Winneconne scored three times in the top of the seventh and Xavier retaliated with two runs in the bottom of the inning but fell two runs short as it falls to 2-3 overall and in the Bay Conference.

Aubrey Mitchell and Grace Mitchell each had a home run and two RBI for Winneconne (4-8, 2-5 Bay Conference).

Morgan Staszak and Quinn Hervey each had two hits, including a double, and two RBI for the Hawks.

Xavier will play a nonconference game at Mayville on Saturday.
