MENASHA – The Appleton Doubledays Legion baseball team opened its 2026 season with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Kimberly on Monday night at Koslo Park.
Kimberly’s Jack DeLeeuw had a two-run, two-out double in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie, then picked up the save. Despite allowing a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh and loading the bases with a second hit batter, he struck out the final batter to save it for Kimberly.
Oscar Crownhart had an RBI single in the fourth inning and Calvin Feucht drove in a run in the fifth to provide Appleton’s first two runs.
Wyatt Schlueter had two of the Doubledays’ five hits in the loss.
The Doubledays are back at home Wednesday against Bay Port at 6:30 p.m. at Koslo Park.
