GREEN BAY – The Appleton North baseball team erupted for 10 runs in the top of the fifth inning, breaking open a tie game on its way to a 13-3 nonconference win over Green Bay Notre Dame on Monday at Capital Credit Union Park.
The score was tied 3-3 after three innings and that stood until the Lightning (4-1) ripped off five hits in a 10-run fifth to pull ahead and eventually win by the 10-run rule after five innings.
North had four walks, two batters were hit by pitch, and had five hits in the 10-run frame. Nathan Ramus knocked in two runs with a double and Owen Reuland later had a two-run single to spark the onslaught.
Ramus earned the pitching win, tossing two shutout innings in relief of Thomas Carew.
Appleton North is scheduled to play a Fox Valley Association game at Kaukauna on Tuesday.
