Appleton North softball sweeps twinbill over Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Appleton North softball team racked up 28 hits in two games and swept a doubleheader over Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday at Lincoln High School.

The Lightning won 10-0 and 8-2 to improve to 8-2.

Evelyn Frega threw a six-inning complete game three-hitter, striking out nine without a walk, and also had two hits and three RBI to power North to the Game 1 win.

Drew Brown was 3-for-4 and Charlotte Radtke also picked up two hits for the Lightning.

In Game 2, North had 15 hits, with Frega and Radtke each finishing with three, and Valerie Baranczyk, Brianna Gehrman and Claire Therkildsen each had two.

Appleton North will host undefeated Fox Valley Lutheran, the No. 1-ranked team in the Division 2 state rankings, on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
