KAUKAUNA – The Appleton West baseball team’s season came to an end with a 13-1 loss to Kaukauna in a WIAA Division 1 regional final Thursday at Kaukauna High School.
Appleton West scored in the first inning on an RBI single by Isaac Ise, but that would be all the Terrors would get as Bron Schaefer (four innings) and Carson Gates (one inning) held they scoreless the rest of the way.
Kaukauna tied the game in the bottom of the first and went ahead with four runs in the second on a pair of two-run doubles by Tyler Urban and Schaefer.
Taron Seghers hit a three-run homer in the third and drove in two more in a five-run fourth as the Ghosts pulled away.
West was held to three hits and finish the season with a 4-23 record after winning their playoff opener Tuesday over De Pere.
Bay Port will play West De Pere in the first semifinal at 10 a.m., with Kaukauna (19-7) taking on Kimberly (23-2) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Sunset Park in a Division 1 sectional. The two winners will play for the sectional title and a state tournament berth at 4 p.m.
