KIMBERLY – Kimberly scored three runs early and held off Appleton North 3-2 in a battle of Fox Valley Association baseball leaders on Monday at Sunset Park.
Kimberly remains undefeated at 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the FVA to take over sole possession of first place while snapping Appleton North’s 10-game winning streak.
Kimberly led 3-0 after three innings before the Lightning (10-2, 6-1 FVA) began to peck away.
Three walks and a passed ball led to a run in the fifth, and Griffin Stan had an RBI single in the sixth to bring North to within a run.
However, the Lightning left the bases loaded in both innings and Pierson Hacker got the final two outs with a runner on first in the seventh to save the win for Papermakers’ starter Maddux Hermus.
Hermus struck out five and walked six, but didn’t allow a hit through five innings. North had just two hits in the loss.
Appleton North will host Neenah on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
