Marinette rallies to top Xavier baseball

MARINETTE – The Xavier baseball team could not hold on to an early four-lead and fell to Marinette 5-4 in a nonconference game Monday at Pedersen Park.

Titan Milhaupt had RBI singles in the first and second innings to help Xavier (7-7) jump out to a 4-0 advantage, but that would be all the Hawks would muster.

Marinette (9-5) scored twice in the third and fourth innings to tie the game, and pushed across what proved to be the winning run in the sixth on an RBI single by Levi Hanson.

Frankie Cavaiani went the distance on the mound for Xavier, striking out two with four walks.

Xavier will play a Bay Conference series against Fox Valley Lutheran this week with first place in the conference on the line. Tuesday’s game is at FVL and Thursday the two teams will meet at Don Hawkins Field. Both games start at 4:30 p.m. FVL holds a one-half game lead over Xavier for first place in the conference standings.
