Neenah holds off Appleton Doubledays in Class AAA Legion baseball regional opener

KIMBERLY – Neenah used a five-run second inning to pull ahead and went on to knock off the Appleton Doubledays 7-5 in a Class AAA American Legion baseball regional opener Tuesday at Sunset Park.

The Doubledays (6-8) will play Manitowoc (15-7) in an elimination game on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Kimberly (11-11) will take on Neenah (4-17) in the winners’ bracket game at 7:30 p.m.

Jack Schlueter and Noah Meyer had RBI singles in the top of the first for Appleton to take an early lead, but a five-run third from Neenah, that included two walks, three hits and two hit batters, put them ahead for good.

Ethan Winkler had an RBI triple in the fourth, and Mason Winkler and Wyatt Schlueter had RBI singles in the sixth, but the Doubledays could not get any closer.

Ethan Winkler went 3-for-3 for Appleton, which had 13 hits in all.
