Xavier baseball rallies to top Fox Valley Lutheran, takes over first place in Bay Conference

APPLETON – Xavier scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 10-8 win over rival Fox Valley Lutheran on Tuesday at Fox Valley Lutheran High School to take over first place in the Bay Conference baseball standings.
Xavier pulled out to a 6-0 lead after three innings before the Foxes rallied, scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Luke Heimerl had a bases-loaded triple and scored on a groundout by Spencer Bromm to cut the deficit to two.
FVL took the lead in the sixth with three runs, including RBI singles by Brady Popp and Michael Gutekunst.
The lead was short-lived as Xavier (8-7, 7-1 Bay Conference) plated four runs in the top of the seventh.
Titan Milhaupt had a triple and scored the go-ahead run on an error, and Quinn Comerford had a two-run single to put the Hawks up by three.
FVL (10-6, 7-2 Bay Conference) scored a run on a Popp RBI triple and the potential game-tying run reached first on a walk before Xavier pitcher Gavin Wiese coaxed a fly out to finish off the victory.
The two teams will play again Thursday at Don Hawkins Field at 4:30 p.m.
